American Engineeded Products (AEP) is a privately held company dedicated to providing the best quality telescoping flagpole in today’s Market.

AEP’s principle founder, Mike Wiese and his father Harold invented and patented the first telescoping flagpole over 20 years ago. While Mike was pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering he and his father worked together to create an easy to use, durable flagpole that did not use ropes or pulleys to raise the flag. The pole used a spring and pin system to lock the pole in place and a solid swivel and top cap to allow the flag to follow the direction of the wind. After Harold patented the flagpole Uncommon USA acquired the manufacturing rights.

After fifteen years of telescoping flagpoles being on the market with thousands sold, it became apparent to Mike that several areas needed improvement. He decided to totally redesign of the telescoping flagpole. He felt there were four areas that needed improvement. The first area was the pin locking system. This system had several areas of weakness: the pin did not find the hole automatically; the pin could be hard to push; the pin would wear the tube into an oval and eventually not lock; and lastly, the pin system could fail and popout. So the pin system was replaced by an internal locking system using metal hooks (see Picture). This system is known as the Easy-lock because it is self-indexing and always finds its home, no searching for the pin hole in the dark!

The next major improvement was redesigning the bushings for better wear life. Over time the original bushing would wear out, especially in high winds. In the redesign the upper 1” bushing became a 6.00”sleeve with molded in metal hooks. This increases the wear life by 6 times. The lower bushing went from 3/16” to 2.50” or 13 times life increase.

The third area that needed attention was the swivel system. The original swivels were solid. This required you to disassemble the flagpole to replace the swivels. This is not a simple process. In order to make replacing your swivels easier, every swivel was split for easy removal with the top cap remaining in the tube. This became the Eazy-off Swivel System.

The final improvement was increasing the diameter of the tubing used. Most commercial poles have a 3.00” butt diameter tapering to 1.75” or 2.00” top diameter. A larger tubing diameter will increase the strength of the pole and also improve the look of the pole. Increasing the butt diameter from 2.50” to 3.00” gave the pole 30% more strength and again, better curb appeal.
AEP is dedicated to continually improving the telescoping flagpole through innovation and technology. This will provide our customers with the best quality flagpole in today’s market. It is the only telescoping flagpole in the industry designed to be maintenance free.
